My toilet was broken for 3 months and wouldn’t flush… so I had to use a jug filled with water to flush it, and now it has been fixed and I can flush, I still pick up the jug to fill it to flush before I remember it has been fixed. What I am saying is old habits die hard, yet this new habit wasn’t that old, but my subconscious mind soon automatically took on this new daily task, as the mind worked automatically without my conscious thoughts. So what this means is we can learn new habits when forced or trained to do so. Because I have flushed my toilet for decades, then when it broke I continued to pull the handle, which did not work, then I eventually changed that old habit as I had no choice, and was forced to use the jug.

Then when I no longer needed the jug because the problem was fixed I still continued to pick it up, so what we think and do every day is so often automatic, just a repeat of the day before. Everything we do is habitual, from driving the same route to work, eating the same breakfast, picking kids up from school, putting the same foods in our shopping trolley, we’re like zombies on autopilot. So you have to take stock and think… are my stale old habits serving me? Because whatever those habits are attract the very same things into our life every single day, then we wonder why our lives don’t change, why nothing exciting ever happens. Yet we are also in our comfort zone, we don’t like too much excitement it rocks the boat.

We feel safe knowing what’s ahead, but now our comfort zones are being shaken, becoming more limited and just like my toilet we are being forced to change old habits when we prefer to go back to the ease and simplicity of our old routines. And so many feel the squeeze being put on us now and wish to be free of this change, pressure and uncertainty of where the world is taking us. This is the universe forcing us out of our comfort zone… why? Because we are creating this global change with our own thoughts and feelings. Like the bored housewife and the workers daily grind, we are frustrated, seeking change, wishing for excitement, craving freedom as the thumb screws tighten to hold us in the same old place.

But we are still thinking and believe in the same old habits, such as pay day, knowing when that is, and how much it will be, yet never expecting any extra pay or financial surprises. So we continue to receive what we expect, waiting for each cheque we never expect a substantial raise or a better job. But if we could change our thoughts and belief around money and re-train our old habits, force different ways like I had to force a new way to flush my toilet. If we could get used to unexpected money flowing into our wallet, wouldn’t that be a nice habit we wouldn’t want to change.
